There is no need for the introduction of Darkthrone. Can you tell us who is still in the band?
FENRIZ: Nocturno Culto, Zephyrous and Fenriz are still active with DARKTHRONE.
I heard that your band received a large amount of money to record “Transylvanian Hunger” and with that money you recorded three albums! What is the story behind this, and what albums were recorded?
We did not receive much money. That is a hoax. When you talk about albums recorded, we recorded them in Necrohell Studios ("Transilvanian Hunger" and "Panzerfaust") and that is a studio I lend from time to time.
What project bands are you in?
I, Fenriz, have up to this day have recorded 14 albums with the following bands: Darkthrone, Dodheimsgard, Isengard, Neptune Towers, Storm and Valhall. I help out with additional percussion (live) with a band called Vortebekk Spaceband as well.
What was the problem PEACEviLLE has with your band? (I heard that you made some comments about ****, etc.)
PEACEVILLE are total assholes. They refuse to repress our first 4 albums!!!!! That means that if you own one or all of our first 4 albums you are lucky, because they will be impossible to get. How can Peaceville do this?! They say they boycott our views – they don’t even know us! The music business is very very sick! Sick!
What was the reason for Darkthrone leaving Peaceville?
We refused to be boycotted by our own label, and we refused to be controlled by Music For Nations who bought Peaceville.
Here is a question I have asked a few other bands featured in this issue: What is your opinion on the Norwegian scene now, as compared to when Euronymous was alive?
The scene in Norway inspires the rest of the world. Ergo, now it is out of control here in Norway (no clear profile, really), so it is CHAOS in the rest of the world’s Black Metal scene.
Then what do you think of all the attention the Norwegian scene has received?
FENRIZ: Natural. Norway is the land of Black Metal – it is a fact. I don’t like P.R. myself.
What bands from Norway should receive your support?
I do not support: bands who rip-off lyrics from other bands, people who use wigs because they should look more Black Metal on special occasions, sadly we have no internal board on censorship of shit after Euronymous died, so IDIOTS can just release what they want and get a record deal outside Norway without approval of the true bands and people.
What bands should be destroyed in your opinion?
Bands who stop the anti-Christian hordes by doing wrong things.
What was the reason for the dramatic change in music style from “Soulside Journey” to “A Blaze in the Northern Sky”?
We got into Black Metal from the old days, and were fed up with the horrible/destroyed Death Metal scene. The Death Metal scene was once so great, but started to become wimpy in 1989–1990. Betrayers are for instance Death and Obituary. I still like Autopsy, though. Anyway, when I picked up Bathory again 1990, I got totally possessed and got a feeling I never had before; the Black Metal feeling. So pure… So cold… I laugh at all humans who haven’t felt this enormous EVIL force.
Musically Darkthrone is cold, lifeless, dark - what influences you to write this music/lyrics?
Satan…
What do you wish to accomplish with your music?
People can buy our records and become possessed. Again… Again… Again… (Those who know where the “again’s” are “taken from” can write the answer and send it to Moonfog’s address, you will (at least 1 of you) receive autographed photo with a special HAil,.)
Why do you no longer play live?
Lots of reasons, we quit live shit in May ‘91, 4 years ago because of always bad or not the right sound, silly audience & stagediving dorks, carry equipment for no money, exhausting travels, but MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL… Let me tell you - MISANTHROPES, especially like ZEPHYROUS & NOCTURNO CULTO, cannot cope with playing live, there are simply too many people around, and those guys hate people!
